The first nutrition consultation lasts one hour and a detailed case history is taken which includes diet, lifestyle and current state of health. Follow-up appointments in which progress is reviewed and appropriate changes are made last about half an hour. Each person is individual,but it is usual for a nutrition programme to be supervised over one year with an average of 4 visits. Thereafter, a half-yearly “MOT” is advisable.
Assessment includes the use of appropriate tests and observations, such as physical signs, laboratory tests and nutrition/lifestyle analysis to determine a nutritional programme. Educational protocols recommended may include nutrition and lifestyle modification, nutritional supplementation, understanding of biochemical pathways and regenerative processes. Regular feedback from clients is actively encouraged.
A course of dietary supplements may also be recommended for a specific period of time in addition to any dietary modifications. Individual dietary and financial circumstances are always taken into consideration when devising a nutritional programme.
